A New Panorama of London
Panorama: 'A New Panorama of London'. The panorama, in precise detail, stretches from the London Eye to the Millennium Dome from a viewpoint on the tower of Southwark Cathedral, looking north across the city, including St Paul's Cathedral and Canada Square, Canary Wharf. That it is taken from the same vantage point as Wenceslaus Hollar's 1630s panoramic etching is noted in one of two notes in Latin, at bottom left and right, surmounted respectively by a glum Britannia with broken sword and a decrepit Neptune. The work illustrates the Royal Opera House, the Michelin Building, the Globe Theatre & the V&A spiral (not currently built) in four central panels. Ingamells spent 7 months making the plate, completing in March 2000. Colour edition no. 99/125.
