Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1934
City of London from above Waterloo Bridge
Nevinson's use of brown wash in this drawing evokes the hazy, industrial atmosphere of London during the mid-1930s. This impression of industrialisation, together with the demolition of Rennie's old Waterloo Bridge, suggests a city undergoing immense change. Nevinson may have taken this view from Hungerford Bridge or the north bank of the Thames in the City of Westminster.
