Mount, dagger sheath mount
A well preserved iron mount from a dagger sheath with no obvious signs of tinning. It consists of a crescentic loop, with vestigial internal scrolls. The cross-section of the loop is rectangular. A thin basal strip is attached to the loop, the ends of which hold the sides of the crescentic loop and terminate in small scrolls. On the front of the mount is a second wider strip decorated with a central groove. Its ends are angled and slightly rounded. At the centre of the basal strip is a tongue, which is rolled over to meet the back of the grooved strip to form a centrally placed hinge tube.
