Posy ring
A plain gold posy ring with a D-sectioned hoop inscribed internally in cursive script 'In thee I find content of mind' with the maker's mark 'RC' in black letter in a rectangular punch.
This posy ring was probably made by Robert Coker I, a Dorchester goldsmith and spoonmaker. Coker was apprenticed to Robert Tret [Treat] under the London Company for seven years and obtained his freedom on 28th November 1601. He was buried 4th January 1654/5. See Timothy Kent, 'West Country silver spoons and their makers 1550-1750', London, 1992, pp 77-78. See also posy ring number 62.4/32 in the Museum of London's collection and posy rings in the British Msueum (Evans bequest) inventory numbers 1961, 1202.39; 1961, 1202.74; 1961, 1202.208; 1961, 1202.458 with similar marks.
