The Red Lion
William Barton issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the Red Lion tavern, in Goodman's Yard.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1180; Obv inscription: WILLIAM. BARTON. AT. YE. RED (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A lion above it a shoe or side of meat (in field); Rev inscription: IN. GOODMANS. YARD. 1667 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY / W.I.B. (in four lines of Roman capitals with triad of initials as bottom, in field).
Goodman's Yard, falls within the Portsoken Ward, in the City of London, and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
