The Tallow Chandler
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued by a tallow chandler (candle maker), for their business in East Smithfield, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 950; Obv inscription: THE.TALLO.CHANLER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A man dipping candles (in field); Rev inscription: IN.ESTSMITH.FIEELD (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = W.A.T. (triad of initials in Roman captials, in field).
