The Old Prince Maurice
This trade token, worth a farthing, was issued at the Old Prince tavern, in East Smithfield, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 949; Obv inscription: AT.THE.OLD.PRINS (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Bust of Prince Maurice (in field); Rev inscription: IN.EST.SMITH.FEILD (around field, in Roman capitals) = R.M.T. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
Prince Maurice (b.1620-d.1652), was the fourth son of Frederick V and Princess Elizabeth, daughter of James I.
