Lawrence Child issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business at the sign of the Shepherd in East Smithfield, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 911; Obv inscription: LAWRENCE.CHILD.AT.YE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A shepherd and his dog (in field); Rev inscription: IN.EAST.SMITHFEILD (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = L.E.C. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
East Smithfield, lies in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, having formerly been part of, Stepney, Middlesex.
