Copper, copper alloy, hook, sheath, dolabra sheath
Copper-alloy hook from an axe (dolabra) sheath which would have fitted around the axe blade. It has a long slender neck, which changes from square to round in section at the loop terminal.
These metal sheathings came in three parts, consisting of of two side pieces hinged to a base, the side pieces having curled necks so that the sheath could be tied in place. They varied quite considerably in size and form but these differences do not seem to have been functional.
