Port & River — 1900-1935
Sample, coiled sample of doppiona silk
Sample of dupioni (or douppioni) silk imported through the East India Docks from Japan. Dupioni silk is formed when the cocoons of two different silk worms become entangled. The result is a slightly thicker thread which contains irregularities but the silk textile woven from it dyes well and is less prone to creasing.
