Port & River — 1900-1935
Sample, sample of raw tussore silk
Sample of raw tussore or 'tussur' silk imported through the East India Docks from China. Tussore silk is harvested from silkworms inhabiting wild mountain shrubs and is often also named after the shrub on which the worm was feeding. Because the raw silk is grown in natural rather than artificial conditions is tends to be tan-coloured
