Port & River — 1900-1935
Sample, loose sample of ambergris wax
A lump of ambergris imported through London's docks for use in perfumery. Cast up by sperm whales, ambergris was highly valued in the 17th and 18th centuries for use in the manufacture of perfumes. It has recently been established that ambergris is made from the indigestible beaks of the squids a whale has eaten.
