Coin, nummus AE3
A copper alloy nummus of Crispus. Crispus was proclaimed Caesar (Crown Prince) by his father, Emperor Constantine I, in AD 313. He was never to become emperor and was executed on his father’s orders in AD 326. The back of the coin depicts Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory. This coin was minted in Londinium (modern day London), AD 320.
Obv: Draped, cuirassed and laureate bust of Crispus, facing right. Obv inscription: CRISPVS NOB CAES. Rev: Two Victories, standing face to face, holding a shield inscribed VOT PR, over an altar; which is inscribed with a cross. Rev inscription: VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP, PLN in exergue.
