Working History — 1845-1855
Plate, trade plate, patternmaker's trade plate
Many of the tools stored in a fine early 19th century toolchest carry the owner's name 'W Gray'. This name plate, also located in one of the drawers of the toolchest refers to 'W.GRAY'S Pattern'. The meaning of this is unclear. It is possible that William Gray was a pattern maker though in mid 19th century London directories he is listed as a carpenter. Canvendish Grove is at the eastern end of Wandsworth Road, not that far from Vauxhall Bridge.
