Biconical jug
Siegburg stoneware drinking jug with rim flaring from a narrow neck, pronounced corrugated footring and decorated in relief on the shoulders with a winged mask and two rosettes. The handle is missing. It has a light buff fabric with a pale yellow glaze and relief decoration in green (rosettes), orange and brown (mask). The Hanse traders of the Hanseatic League had a controlling interest in the shipment of stonewares along the Rhine, and by the late 1500s London had become the main emporium of German stonewares into England.
