African Remembrance Day 2026
A day for reflection, healing and renewal of the global African family.
In association with the African Remembrance Day (ARD) Committee and London Museum Docklands, this year’s ARD brings together the global African family for a day of reflection, healing and renewal.
ARD 2026 highlights Ethiopia’s historic victory at the Battle of Adwa under Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taytu Betul – a defining moment of African resistance and self-determination that inspired Pan-African movements worldwide.
The ceremony will include the traditional three-minute silence at 3pm honouring victims across the Americas, Africa and Asia.
The afternoon will feature keynote reflections on “Menelik, Adwa & the Defence of African Sovereignty”, Ethiopia’s historic role in Pan-Africanism and the continuing struggle for dignity and agency in the modern world.
