Cap, nightcap
Cap made from two pieces of linen; the main part cut in four shaped quarters, turned-back brim made from a separate strip with seam hidden by brim. Embroidered with black silk in stem, double-running and speckling stitches, with diaper fillings and with silver-gilt thread in plaited braid, heavy chain, twisted chain, detached buttonhole and interlaced stitches with raised woven knots. Each quarter is decorated with scrolling stems enclosing (top and bottom) exotic lily, pansy, cornflower, rose, borage, strawberry and pea. The same motifs are enclosed within the scrolling stem that runs round the brim.
