Smock, nightgown
Woman's smock of fine linen; edges of sleeves, armholes, under-arm gusset and first 6 cms of front and back panels below gussets are turned and decoratively hemmed with pink silk (originally deep pink) in closed buttonhole stitches; seams worked with simple narrow insertion stitch in pink silk and linen thread atttached to silk buttonhole stitches. Neck and sides of front opening and upper sleeves and wrists decorated with embroidered bands worked in pink silk and bobbin lace.
