Bowl
Part of a decorated samian ware bowl, form Dragendorff 30, with ovolo band, made at Les Martres-de-Veyre, Central Gaul, in the style of the potters Medetus and Ranto. Decoration includes male figure and figure of soldier with circular shield, within arcades with pillar of peltas between. Samian ware is high-quality Roman tableware made in Gaul (modern-day France) and exported throughout the empire. Same vessel as 11567/5. See Stanfield & Simpson, pl 29, 345.
