Bowl
This shiny, bright orange fragment of a samian ware bowl was made in France in the 125-150 CE and imported to Britain. Samian ware was popular in Roman London, reflecting the busy, cosmopolitian nature of this trading settlement - archaeologists have found this type of pottery in shops, homes and warehouses by the river. The bowl is decorated with wild animals - a stag and rabbit or hare, and would have been used to serve food at formal dinners.
