Archaeology — 18th-19th century
Bottle
These 35 fragments of 18th or early 19th century glass wine bottles were found on an archaeological excavation on Aldersgate Street, very close to the Museum of London. Wine bottle necks had a small ring of glass around the top so that the cork could be tied on with string or wire. Wine bottles were originally rounded but during the 18th century they became taller and straighter and more like the bottles we have today.
