Knife, razor
Knife or razor with hooked blade and integral ring handle. The tip of the blade curves down to form a hook, with the cutting edge on the inner curve; short handle ends in a broken suspension ring. The blade bears an illegible marker's mark.
An almost identical knife from the Roach Smith collection in the British Museum (1856.7-1.1123) is stamped by the maker OLONDVS F; Manning (1985, 111) raises the possibility that they may be from the same workshop, although the stamp is interpreted in RIB as BASILI F, the name also known on other knives from London. It is probable that small knives of this general type were used as razors, and all are early forms.
