Brush, shaving brush
Such brushes are likely to have been among the contents of the embroidered caskets of the mid to late C17. Shaving brush is composed of two parts, an outer case and an inner brush. The brush can be pushed out through the end of the outer case. The outer case is covered in cream silk and embroidered with a flower, bud, leaves and grapes using polychrome floss silks and metal threads and metal sequins. The end of the brush is embroidered with a flower and the inner case is covered in pink silk.
