Sheath, dagger sheath binding

Open sheath frame made from a single sheet of iron which was shaped and cut to form the side U-shaped side channels and front panels of the sheath. It has no back. The side channels meet at the bottom of the back in a welded seam and are terminated in an acorn shaped knob. Overall, the frame conforms to the waisted shape of the dagger blade. Two large open panels have been cut out of the front. The two cross panels are plain except for the simple fixing points for the suspension rings and for the row of punched decoration at each outer edge. The latter give the effect of a row of rivet, or nail, heads. The lower cut-out is almost triangular in shape, but terminates not in a point, but in two lobes with raised punched decoration, which looks like two raised nail heads.
