The Turk's Head Coffee House
Nicholas Strange issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business, a coffee house, in St Ann's Lane (now part of Gresham Street).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2447; Obv inscription: NICH. STRAINGE. AT. YE. COFFEE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A Turk's head (in field); Rev inscription: HOVSE.IN.ST.ANNS.LANE.69 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A hand pouring coffee into a cup (in field).
