Archaeology — Tudor; 1520-1540
Moulding
The Order of St John of Jerusalem in Clerkenwell was one of the richest in the land. The priory was adorned with moulded terracottas shortly before it was dissolved in 1540: this frieze was made around the 1520s or 1530s. The buildings were eventually blown up during Edward VI's reign and some of the stone was used to build Somerset House in the Strand.
