Finger ring, posy ring
A plain gold posy ring of D-shaped section inscribed internally in unconnected cursive 'In God alone We two are one' with the maker's initials 'HL' in Roman capitals in an elliptical punch.
This posy ring was made by Henry Leydon, an Exeter goldsmith who became Free of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths' in London (date unknown, but he had an apprentice on 6th July 1687'. See Timothy Kent 'West Country silver spoons and their makers 1550-1750', London 1992, p 98. See also posy ring in the British Museum (Evans bequest) inv. no. 1961, 1202.125 for an identical mark.
