The Dragon and Bell
William Hall issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Green Dragon Court (now Holborn Viaduct), by Cow Lane (now Smithfield Street), Smithfield.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 777A; Obv inscription: WILL. HALL. IN. COW.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = dragon and bell (in field); Rev inscription: IN.GREENE.DRAGON.CORT (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY / W.I.H. (in four lines of Roman capitals with triad of initials as bottom, in field).
Green Dragon Court (now Holborn Viaduct) lay to the west of Cow Lane (now Smithfield Street), in the ward of Farringdon Without, in the City of London.
