Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1858
Henry Thomas Lambert
This portrait by George Cole depicts the successful business man Henry Thomas Lambert in the drawing room of his home at 307 Wapping High Street. Through the window can be seen a busy Thames at Bermondsey crowded with vessels, including a paddle steamer and a sailing ship. Lambert is recorded as owning a prosperous sail making business.
The colourful and ornate interior of Lambert’s home including the thick heavy curtains, patterned wallpaper and carpets portray a comfortable Victorian middle- class home.
