Social History — 19th century; c. 1830-40
Tankard
A conical tankard of pint capacity with a thickened everted rim and decorative fillets around the lower body and base with additional turning above and below. The hollow-cast swept handle (much damaged) has flush attachments. The body is inscribed ‘F Herbage B.E’. There is a ‘Pint’ label and a Victorian verification mark below the rim to the left of the handle. The base (b) has separated from the body (a). The worn touch of ‘PI’ – is unidentified. Date: possibly c.1830-40.
