Sheath, dagger sheath
Iron dagger-blade in sheath. Front plate of bronze (0.4 mm thick) of gentle double-ogee top outline, folded over the iron back plate; fitted with a slender tube-chape, with closed ring ending at each side in a ball joined to the tube; no mouldings at the top of the tube but fine double line 5 mm below top. Inner edge of chape has fine row of punched dots almost rubbed away; hole in bottom. Front of sheath has panel décor set out in thin rolled-up ridges outlined by scoring with blunt point, with gently cambered panels between, giving the effect of solidity to the sheath (extracted from Jope, E. M., 2000, Early Celtic Art).
