Decorative arts — 1899-1900
Medal, campaign medal
This medal was presented to Private H R Lister of the City Imperial Volunteers. Lister served in the mounted infantry of a unit that also included a cyclists' section.
The seven clasps on the medal indicate that Lister was present at all the major South African battles in which the City Imperial Volunteers fought. As a horseman, he probably worked as a scout and convoy guard.
