Post-Medieval — 17th century; c.1670-80
Porringer, miniature porringer
A single-eared porringer with a plain, straight-sided bowl (now slightly damaged) and a central boss accentuated by a turned circle which appears to have been enlarged or corrected. The trefoil-shaped ear has crescent and heart-shaped piercings. There are distinctive turning marks underneath. No visible maker’s marks (but see comment below). Date: circa 1670-1680.
The ear and bowl are similar to porringer acc. no. 8134. A porringer with this ear and of exactly this size, made and marked by the London maker William Mabbott, OP3029, LTP69, was illustrated by Ronald Michaelis in his article ‘English Pewter Porringers’, part III, September 1949,p81,Fig IVb. See also Acc No. 8126 below for a larger and well marked porringer by this maker.
