Bowl
Part of a decorated samian bowl, form Dragendorff 29 made in one of the potteries in South Gaul. The upper zone is decorated with horizontal arrowheads and animals. The bowl has been repaired in Roman times by drilling holes either side of a break and pouring in molten lead to make a rivet. This shows the value put on samian bowls by their owners. Samian ware is high-quality Roman tableware made in Gaul (modern-day France) and exported throughout the empire.
