Part of a decorated samian ware bowl, form Dragendorff 37, stamp: PATRNI (retro) as 'Advertisement' stamp within decoration, the mark of the potter Paternus of Central Gaul. Decorated with panel decoration, lion in festoon with cherub below, animal figure in festoon with lion in medallion below, vertical panels with human figure. Samian ware is high-quality Roman tableware made in Gaul (modern-day France) and exported throughout the empire. See Stanfield & Simpson, pl 104, 4.
