The Pelican
Thomas Mills issued this trade token, worth a farthing, at the sign of the Phoenix's Nest, in Wapping, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3319. Obv inscription: THOMAS.MILLS.AT.YE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A pelican feeding her young in nest (in field); Rev inscription: IN. WAPPINGE.1664 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = T.E.M. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).
