The Man in the Moon
John Clarke, issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Man in the Moon, in Wapping, Middlsex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 3288; Obv inscription: IOHN.CLARKE.AT.THE.MAN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A man standing in a crescent moon with two tobacco rolls suspended over his head (in field); Rev inscription: IN. YE / MOON. IN / WAPING / HIS. HALF / PENNY / I.E.C. / 1668 (in seven lines of Roman captials, in field); Octagonal.
