The Red Lion
James Touchin issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Red Lion, in Mill Lane, off Tooley Street, Southwark.
Boyne & Williamson (1891) reference Southwark number 310; Obv inscription: IAMES. TOVCHIN. AT. YE. RED (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A lion passant I.H.T. (triad of initials in Roman capitals above sign, in field); Rev inscription: IN.MILL.LANE.1666 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
