The Colt and Cradle
Wiliam Webb issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Colt and Cradle, in St Martin's Lane.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 2678A; Obv inscription: WILLIAM. WEBB. AT. YE. COVLT. AND (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A colt in a cradle (in field); Rev inscription: CRADLE.IN.ST.MARTINS.LANE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENNY / 1667 (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field).
The place of issue for this token is uncertain, it may be St Martin's Lane, St Martin le Grand, in Aldersgate Ward, in the City of London, or St Martin's Lane, in Westminster, Middlesex; now part of the City of Westminster.
