The Cock
David Kempe issued this trade token, worth a farthing, for his business near the Irongate, St Katherine's, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1542; Obv inscription: DAVID.KEMPE.AT.THE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = A cock (in field); Rev inscription: NEAR.IRON.GATE (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = D.A.K. (triad of initials in Roman capitals, in field).

The Irongate lay between Tower Wharf and Little Thames Street (now part of East Smithfield), in the neighbourhoods of Tower Hill and St Katherine's, in Middlesex. The area now lies in the London borough of Tower Hamlets.
