The Three Tuns Tavern
Thomas Ailay issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business at the Three Tuns tavern, at the Guildhall Gate, Guildhall Yard.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 1296; Obv inscription: THOMAS.AILAY.AT.THE.3 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Three tuns (in field); Rev inscription: AT.GVILDHALL.GATE.1665 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = ½ between T.E.A. (triad of initials in Roman capitals around ½, in field).
