The Dyers' Arms
Thomas King issued this trade token, worh a half penny, for his business at the sign of the Dyer's Arms, in Coldharbour (now Upper Thames Street).
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London number 705; Obv inscription: THOMAS.KINGE.AT.YE.DYERS (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = The Dyers' arms (in field); Rev inscription: ARMES.IN.COLE.HARBER (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALFE / PENY / T.E.K. (in four lines of Roman capitals with triad of initials as bottom, in field).
The arms of the Worshipful Company of Dyers are: Sable a chevron engrailed argent between three bags of madder argent corded (J. Bromley, The Armorial Bearings of the Guilds of London: a record of the heraldry of the surviving companies with historical notes; with...[illustrations] by Heather Child...(London, 1960). The area formerly known as Coldharbour is now part of Upper Thames Street, in Dowgate Ward, in the City of London.
