Post-Medieval — Mid 17th century; 1648-1673
The Union
This leather trade token, worth three pence, was issued for a business at the Union, on Cornhill.
Boyne & Williamson (1889) reference London Appendix 15; Obv inscription: VNION / IN / CORNHILL / 3 (in four lines of Roman capitals, in field); Rev: plain.
The token was made from cuir bouli (boiled leather), which was used for robust work such as vessels and harnesses. It would have been struck with a hot press stamp.
