Archaeology — Roman; 40-125
Knife
Copper-alloy handle, with part of iron blade, very corroded. The handle has a rounded terminal over a pair of mouldings and a distinctive shaped diagonal edge where it was riveted to the iron blade; details identified from X-ray, X1044. Bone handles of this form retain the distinctive diagonal binding (Manning 1985, 108) and there are related forms of copper-alloy handle with openwork decoration(Crummy 1983, 110, 2938).
