Copper, copper alloy, jug, jug lid
A copper alloy jug handle with a hinged lid in the shape of a gladiator’s helmet, which is secured by a perforated lug. The helmet has a flanged neck guard and conical peak, with bifurcated crest; incised decoration on the crown of the helmet, arranged in two rows of three lines, the central one flanked by slanting feather decoration. The handle is otherwise plain, D-shaped in section, with the curve on the outside; curved brackets on either side of the hinge were attached to the rim of the jug and a loop on the upper part of the handle served as a thumb grip.
