Brooch, winged bow, hod hill
A copper alloy Hod Hill type brooch; pin missing; catchplate unpierced. The bow is decorated with prominent vertical ridges that taper to a transverse moulding, followed by a narrower section terminating in a knob.
Brooches were used like safety pins, buttons and zips are used today. They were functional and held garments together. They were also made to be decorative and often had coloured enamels along the bow. Novelty brooches were also popular.
