Post-Medieval — Tudor; 16th century
Scabbard
Part of a leather sword scabbard. The front is decorated with crescent-shaped and concentric circle stamped motifs. The back is plain with a centre back seam with flesh/grain stitch holes. The tip and lower part of the scabbard has been cut off and removed. The mouth is cut straight at the back and curved at the front (with the front folded forwards).
The decoration is similarly to that found on scabbard 80A0549 from the Mary Rose, sunk in 1545 (Hildred et al, 2011, 796, fig 9.73).
