Archaeology — Roman; 2nd century
Pottery, vessel, jar, lid, urn
An unusually tall jar of Verulamium Region Coarse White-slipped ware, repaired from sherds. The jar has six concentric grooves around the body and has a lid-seat rim to take a fitted lid. The lid is of a local oxidised ware and has a rounded rim, slightly chipped.
This vessel was used as a cremation urn and contained cremated bones, with the lid placed on top. The vessel had then been placed inside a tile cist.
