The Crossed Oars
William Hobbs issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Lower Shadwell, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1891) reference Middlesex number 184; Obv inscription: WILLIAM.HOBBS.IN (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field); Rev inscription: LOWER.SHADDWELL (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = Two boat oars crossed (in field).
