The Drapers' Arms
Edward Swift issued this trade token, worth a half penny, for his business in Old Brentford, Middlesex.
Boyne & Williamson (1891) reference Middlesex number 21; Obv inscription: EDWARD.SWIFT.1668 (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = The Drapers' arms (in field); Rev inscription: IN.OVLD.BRANTFORD (around field, in Roman capitals) Device = HIS / HALF / PENY (in three lines of Roman capitals, in field).
The arms of the Worshipful Company of Drapers are: Azure three clouds with sunbeams issuing proper crowned with imperial crowns (J. Bromley, The Armorial Bearings of the Guilds of London: a record of the heraldry of the surviving companies with historical notes; with...[illustrations] by Heather Child...(London, 1960).
